THE GIRL OF WIRIKUTA: THE HOLY LAND OF WIXÀRIKA, HUMANITY HERITAGE

Among all the ethnicities living in Mexico today, Wixàrika (Huichol), seems to be the only one who has kept her deeds, cults and millennial traditions intact. This was possible thanks to the geography of their territory, mountainous and difficult to access and their decentralized political organization, composed of five main communities, each governed by a traditionalist government. The essential part of their identity is the pilgrimage they make each year through dozens of sacred natural sites that spread over eight hundred kilometers across the sacred land of Wirikuta.
Wirikuta is located in the state of San Luis Potosí (Mexico), in the Sierra de Catorce and has an extension of 140,000 hectares. It
was declared a Natural and Cultural Ecological Reserve by the Mexican Government and in 2004 it became part of the Sacred Sites
Natural by UNESCO as World Heritage Site of Humanity. In this area (which is part of the Chihuahanga desert),
focuses on the greater endemic cavity biodiversity and wealth per square meter of the entire planet earth.
For the Wixarikà people in Wirikuta, the Creation was born and it is where the essence of the life of the planet lies.
Divinity and Spirits inhabit the sacred places of Wirikuta that the Wixàrika (Huichol) meet along the way and since
their language does not have a written form, pilgrimage plays an important role so far as to be defined
“Mesoamerican Itinerant University”. It is the mainstay of the identity of this population, and the medium through which
to convey to the new generations a system of ancestral knowledge based on nature.
WIRIKUTA IS IN DANGER! Unfortunately, there have been many facts that have seriously threatened this Sacred land in recent years. The destruction of Wirikuta signs the death penalty of the people of Wixàrika (Huichol) and with them, their tradition
cultural and religious.
WIRIKUTA IS HERITAGE OF HUMANITY, OF ALL US, WE DEFEND MOTHER EARTH !!!

DONA MARIA

In 1991 at Real De Catorce in Mexico I knocked on Don Eusebio’s door, a child led me to him, treated me and I
he helped me to recover my Soul in Wirikuta’s Garden at Bernalejo. Don Eusebio started me to shamanism
Wixaritari tradition by conveying my knowledge of plants, the recovery of the soul, to care for people with feathers
of the hawk-hawk.
In 1999, the head of the mara’akate Don Andres officially recognized me as a woman of medicine and knowledge.
Since 2003 I have held seminars on the four elements and individual sessions and I organize trips to Mexico in the garden of Wirikuta.
In 2006, he published the book “The Desert Shaman” Aquarium’s Editions.
In 2013, I founded the “Salviamo Wirikuta” Association for the protection of the sacred territories of the Indios that are threatened by total ruin by Canadian multinationals for the extraction of metals such as gold and silver and intensive crops.
Since 2014 I am the official representative of Sacred Heart of Mexico in Italy.
